Because microfibers have created a small revolution in the cleaning world, its impact, besides being labour and cost saving, is environmentally friendly and safe for use around babies, toddlers and young children.

Previously an efficient cleaning could hardly be achieved without the help of dozens of dangerous chemical products, such as disinfectants and detergents. Paper towel, the obvious alternative, is a product of the pulp and paper industry. Throughout the world, enormous tracts of virgin forest are being felled for pulp and paper production. The paper industry is also a major source of toxic chemical by-products like mercury, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxides, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, chlorine compounds, and biocides. These contribute to ozone warnings, acid rain, global warming and respiratory problems.

Paper making is also energy intensive, drawing large amounts of electricity and frequently diminishing groundwater supplies.

Finally, paper consumption generally produces a large amount of solid waste. Tissue, paper towel and napkins are all considered personal hygiene or clean-up products. Due to potential contamination, these products are not acceptable as recyclables in most areas.

Even cotton, which is most commonly used in cleaning cloths, cannot be considered environmentally friendly. Cotton requires a lot of water and many pesticides to grow. Cotton cultivation has caused pollution and serious soil damage in most of its growing regions. Genetically modified cotton causes other hazards such as the development of new forms of pests and its uncontrolled proliferation.
